Magic Kingdom
So this was our first full day we had at Disney World and we were ready to tackle Magic Kingdom. We had the morning planned with 3 fast passes (Winnie the Pooh, Dumbo and Buzz Light Year) and we were excited for our first day at the parks. On our first night at the hotel, I was checking my Disney Experience App and I saw that one of the restaurants that I was really wanting to go to, Chef Mickey’s, had an opening for breakfast the next morning. So I booked it for 8:10am on the day we were heading to Magic Kingdom and was hoping I could get everyone out the door for it.
This was such a fun start to our first day. I would highly recommend Chef Mickey’s for one of your meals (they are open for breakfast, lunch or dinner). This was our first interaction with the characters and we were interested to see how the kids would do. Madelyn was scared of the characters, but occasionally was happy to honk their noses. Brody was hugging Mickey and kissing Minnie and then hiding under the table from Pluto. It was so crazy to see how some characters he loved seeing and others he acted scared to death! Even though I knew I needed to expect that they could be scared, I was really hoping that Brody (at age 3.5) would be happy to meet them all.
We went straight to the park after breakfast and were rushing to try and make it to our first Fast Pass appointment at Buzz Lightyear. We missed our window by a few minutes and had this not been our first day, I would have totally run to the fast pass line and begged for forgiveness! Meaning, I would have gone and begged the attendant working in the fast pass line to work their magic and be kind enough to let us in!! And most likely, they would have. But instead, I didn’t know how the system worked yet and I just gave that fast pass up. During my process of re-booking fast passes, I managed to accidentally erase our next fast pass of Winnie the Pooh and I was in a complete tizzy. This was not a good start to our first day. We managed to finally get some Fast Passes booked and we headed over to Fantasyland (an area of the park) and we knocked out Dumbo, It’s A Small World and Mickey’s Philharmagic before we had to head to lunch.
We made it to lunch at Crystal Palace which is a buffet style lunch with all the Winnie the Pooh characters. This would have been a great lunch (and still was fine) if the kids had been in any mood to see characters. Instead they cried or hid from all the characters that went by and usually Brody loves Winnie the Pooh. That was a bit disappointing. The kids were getting pretty tired at this point; but since we had used our 3 fast passes, I was able to pick up a couple of more while we were at lunch to see Buzz Lightyear and the Little Mermaid. Brody loves Buzz!!!
As soon as Buzz Lightyear was done, we were able to stand in a short line to meet Buzz himself and get a picture with him. I wasn’t sure how Brody was going to do, but he loved it. Madelyn fell asleep in my arms while we were waiting in line, but woke up pretty quickly.
After Buzz, we couldn’t catch anymore good fast passes that worked for us and it was time for everyone to take a rest back at the hotel. Madelyn had taken a really short nap while we were at the park, but I had a feeling that was going to be all she was going to take. It was a gorgeous day and when we were leaving the park, we saw a ferry boat pulling up that we could hop on to get back to the Polynesian instead of taking the monorail. The ferry makes one quick stop at the Grand Floridian and then drops right off at the Polynesian. I enjoyed taking this a few times. It was never too crowded as far as lines go and we could just fold up our stroller and carry it on.
We got back to the hotel and we put our swimsuits on to head to the pool. Obviously we let Brody skip his nap today and Madelyn only took that short one in the park. We enjoyed a little pool time and then went back to the room to shower and get ready for our 6:15pm dinner reservation at Citracos at the Grand Floridian.
We got there a little bit early so we could explore the hotel a bit. It’s absolutely stunning! I love the feel and looks of it so much. It’s very elegant.
I’m wearing this new Chambray Ruffle dress that I love (and its already on sale) and my favorite pineapple Jack Rogers.

The kids did awesome at dinner! It was a nice restaurant and the food was so yummy! I had the scallops with risotto and I loved it and I couldn’t have been happier to have my fancy martini!
Brody and Matt were on such a high, they wanted to go back to the park that night!!! I thought they were crazy, but they did it. And then I was kind of jealous and considered for one minute trying to push Madelyn there! Thankfully I didn’t because they only got to fit in a couple of rides before the park closed at 8pm that night.
As I type this today, I can’t believe how much we fit into that first day. That was a lot for having two young kids. It all worked out for us even though it started out a bit stressful. We thought this was going to be our only day at Magic Kingdom, so we wanted to fit in as much as possible; but we ended up spending another day and a half there as it turned out. We loved it the most!!
There were definitely more rides and things we wanted to do at Magic Kingdom, so I will share the rest of those with you in a future post. But here’s a recap of what our day looked like:
:: Our Schedule for the Day ::
8:10 am Chef Mickeys Character Breakfast at the Contemporary
9am – 10am FP (Fast Pass) Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger (missed it by a few minutes)

** We ended up messing up our morning fast pass schedule and I had to do some shifting around. Instead of hitting the rides listed above, we ended up at It’s a Small World, Mickey’s Philharmagic, Dumbo and then Buzz Lightyear and Little Mermaid after lunch.
If you missed our first day arriving to Disney World, you can find it here.
I also made a video of our first two days. It’s almost 10 minutes long.
What a great first day! And yes you fit in sooooo much. So impressed!
We love chef mickey too (: I want to do it for breakfast one time.
xo
Thanks gal!! I got lots of good ideas from you 🙂
You are sooo organized!! I love all of your tips and pictures!
Thanks gal!! It was so fun. Have to make sure I document it all now before I forget!!
So fun and can’t believe how much you fit into the first day!! I think it’s worth skipping naps and pushing the kids a little when on vacation to get the most out of the trip.
Yes, it really did work out for us! I was nervous at first but everyone’s adrenaline was flowing!
I love following this trip report! We are taking our toddler in June! How did Madelyn do in Philharmagic? It is one of my favorites and I wasn’t sure if my son would enjoy it being so young. Also, where are those shorts from? They are fabulous!
She actually did great in Philharmagic and I was worried! We did several different shows throughout the trip and some she did great in and a few she didn’t. I think it had more to do with her mood at the moment rather than the actual show 🙂
And my shorts are old Mara Hoffman from shop bop. I’ll have to see if they are available again this spring. Usually she will keep this same style and come out with a different pattern.
Looks like yall had an amazing trip!! I absolutely love all of your outfits! You did a great job planning/ organizing!! I am betting that drink tasted amazing after such a full day 😉 lol
Thanks Lauren and yes, it was the best tasting martini I’ve had in a long time 🙂
Love this post so much! You guys rocked it with two little ones!! I can’t wait for the day we take our little guy. We love Chef Mickeys for dinner but have never done the breakfast there- I’d love to though!
I couldn’t agree more. This post looks like you had more than 24 hours in your day! You guys got stuff DONE at Disney World! Love following along with these recaps!
Thanks gal!! Couldn’t have done it without you!!
I am obsessed with Disney so reading peoples trip recaps is one of my faves!! We are heading back this year and your post is getting me so excited! We did Chef Mickey’s last time and loved it!! This year we are actually staying at the Contemporary since we will spend 2+ days at MK as well and being able to walk there is going to be awesome! I can’t wait to read more about your trip!
I’m enjoying your trip report! It sounds like you realize it now – If you are just a few minutes late, you can usually still your FastPass reservation. Disney isn’t going to advertise that, of course.

Love your shoes! I’m currently looking for some slip ons…what brand are they?
They are Vince. Steve Madden makes some really cute ones now and Dolce Vita has some really cute ones at Target right now too for a better price.
What a fun time at Magic Kingdom and aaaaah, the Grand Floridian!!!! Stunning. I would love to have dinner there. Ultimate wish list: stay there. Love your recaps and takin’ notes for next time! So fun!
