Hotel Review | Our Stay At The Breakers, Palm Beach

A few months back, hubby and I sat to discuss where we could go on our babymoon this summer.  Since I am pregnant, we felt a little restricted because of the Zika virus that is still hanging around the Caribbean islands and knew we didn’t want to chance it.  We narrowed it down to a few places and then contacted my friend, Meg at Dube Destinations, to help us out.  You can learn more about Meg and what she does in the Q&A post we did with her a couple of months ago.

We decided on The Breakers in Palm Beach and I was so excited! The hotel has so much history and is absolutely beautiful. We booked a room in the Flagler Club that ended up being the best.thing.ever! Meg suggested that and I’m so glad we did it.  The Flagler Club is available to a select number of rooms and provides extra amenities during your stay.  There is a designated staff to help you throughout your stay as well as a private lounge with rooftop terrace that offers the most gorgeous views of the island.   They serve complimentary food and beverage four different times throughout the day (breakfast, lunch, happy hour and dessert) with the most incredible nibbles that are beautifully prepared.  We spent a lot of time enjoying this feature and hit it up for dessert each evening to end our night.  I usually would not splurge on this type of amenity, but I have to admit that it really added so much to our experience.  And I do want to add that this trip or hotel stay was not sponsored in any way.  We paid our way just like everyone else and this is my honest review of our trip as always.

With that said, let’s get into the rest of the weekend…

We arrived to Palm Beach a couple hours later than planned because of some weather delays, but it all worked out.  A driver arranged by the Flagler Club at the Breakers was right at baggage claim to pick us up and take us on a short 15 minute ride to the hotel.  We checked in at the front desk only to be greeted by our own special concierge from the Flagler Club.  They walked us up to our room and showed us around the designated Flagler Club room where they would have food and beverages put out four different times during the day!  It was so beautiful.

We took a few minutes to unpack, explored the hotel a little bit and then got dressed and ready for dinner that night.  We had planned to stay at the hotel for dinner on our first night to keep things easy.  We were deciding between two restaurants:  HMF or the Seafood Bar.  We stopped by the Seafood Bar and there was a bit of a wait, so we walked over to HMF and had dinner there.  It’s a happening spot and the menu is tapas style which was perfect for us.

We had a few amazing dishes and then decided to go up to the Flagler level and enjoy the desserts from 8-10pm.

Friday was our day to explore Palm Beach and we were pretty excited about it. We knew we wanted to hit up the Flagler Museum and do some shopping and have lunch down Worth Ave.  We had a car service through the Flagler Club at our hotel that would take us anywhere we wanted to go around town, so they dropped us off at the Flagler Museum after breakfast.  We also had free breakfast with our room which was awesome because there was two beautiful breakfast buffets that we were able to choose from and we are big breakfast people 🙂

Flagler Museum

This museum is the old estate of Henry Flagler that was completed in 1902.  This place is so gorgeous and just unreal.  Wait until you see some of the rooms in this house…

After we explored the museum, we grabbed a ride again and headed to Worth Ave.  Worth Ave. is famous for all of its fabulous shopping.  They have restaurants as well and palm trees that line the streets so beautifully.

Once we were done shopping, we stopped at Pizza al Fresco for lunch and it was heaven.  We love Italian food and this meal did not disappoint.  It has a really pretty patio area with tables, but we actually decided to sit inside for some AC after a pretty hot day of shopping.

We had this crabmeat and lobster salad that was out of this world.  I’m telling you it might have been the best salad I’ve ever had.  We also split a pizza that was delicious as well.  I loved the thin crust and the fresh mozzarella.

We headed back to the hotel after lunch to relax for a little bit before my spa appointment.  I had a prenatal massage scheduled and was excited to relax in the spa for a bit beforehand.  My massage was wonderful and just what I needed after a long day of being on my feet all day 🙂

Friday night we had dinner reservations at Buccan that came highly recommended from lots of readers!  This spot is obviously popular and rightfully so.  The decor is sleek and the food was incredible! We had watermelon martinis to start and they were happy to make mine without alcohol.  We ordered the tuna appetizer which was delicious and then I had a pasta dish that was delicious and Matt had the skirt steak.

We started the day with our free breakfast buffet, but not before I’ve gone to the Flagler Club for my favorite cappuccino.  They have one of those amazing machines that with the click of one button, spits out the perfect coffee that you desire!

We put on our swim suits and grabbed two seats by the pool. It was a beautiful day even though it was hot. We sat by the adult-only pool and took several dips throughout the day.

Once we were hungry for lunch, we decided to shower up and head to the Seafood Bar to eat.  They have great views of the ocean and the atmosphere of the restaurant is just gorgeous.  They make you feel like you are on a large ship and the bar is made out of a fish tank!   The US Open golf tournament was going on, so we grabbed a small table in the bar to eat lunch and watch a bit of the golf.  I had the fish tacos and they were amazing.  We also had the crab nachos which they are apparently known for and those were incredible too.

After lunch, I wanted to explore the shops right there in the hotel.  They have several little shops including Lilly Pulitzer!  So of course I had to do shopping in their as well as their cute little kids store to grab a gift to bring home to them.

For our last night, we had dinner reservations at an Italian spot called Renato’s.  It is actually a sister restaurant to the lunch spot, Pizza al Fresco, that we ate at.   Before dinner though, we wanted to check out the Colony hotel and grab a drink there before we walked to Renato’s.

The Colony hotel was very old, authentic Palm Beach to me.  It was eclectic and fun and gives you those Palm Beach vibes.  It’s a much smaller hotel than The Breakers, but cute in the boutique hotel way.  The location was great too because it sits right at the end of Worth Ave., so it’s a short walk to the beach and to all the shops.

We walked to Renato’s for dinner and Matt and I both ordered the veal.  I had mine in a mushroom sauce and his was a cream sauce and they were both delicious! We sat outside in the cute courtyard because the weather was really nice that evening.

It was our last day and sad to leave, but we had plans for an old friend of ours to meet us for breakfast that morning.  We enjoyed the breakfast buffet again and got a nice visit in while we watched a little more of the US Open golf tournament.  Before we knew it, it was time to head upstairs to pack our things and get ready for the airport.

We made one last stop to our favorite Flagler level room and had a quick bite of lunch there before we had to hop in the car to the airport.  They were kind enough again to arrange our airport transportation and off we went.

Our flights home went super smooth and we were excited to get home just in time to see our kiddos before it was bedtime!

The Breakers

We loved our stay here so much if you couldn’t tell already :). Matt and I had the opportunity to stay at this hotel about 9 years ago when we lived in Orlando and it has always been on our list of favorite hotels in the world.  It is so unique and offers so much beauty every where you look.  The history behind it is incredible too and the whole hotel is still privately owned by family of Henry Flagler.  I think that is so neat.

I love how many restaurants and shops that the hotel has to offer along with the four pools, spa, beach and fitness center.  It is just huge.  Of course the whole time we were there, we were spotting all the cute kids running around the resort and wondering if we would have fun bringing ours back next time.  The answer would be yes! There is a lot for the kids to do and they also offer kids camp and activities every day.  As long as your child is 3 and potty trained, they can attend!  Kids under 12 eat free too!  The only thing I will say with bringing kids is that I’m not sure there is any other way to do it besides getting two adjoining rooms.  The rooms are pretty darn small and I think even a suite that offers a sitting area is not big enough for two kids.  So I would have to look into that.

Overall, we loved our 3 day weekend in Palm Beach so much and were very happy with our choices.  We felt like we were able to explore, enjoy a little history, relax and eat the most amazing food!  It was the perfect getaway for just the two of us to come home feeling recharged!

Loved reading this as it’s one of our favorite spots! I’ve been dreaming of those fish tacos ever since we left! We’ve never tried Renato’s or the pizza place so I’m adding those to my list! We’re thinking of going back in October around Tatum’s first birthday and you have me wanting to go even more now – love that kids eat for free!
