How to Make an Art Cart for Toddlers or Kids

My nesting is in full force these days and I am slowly checking off all the items on my ‘Summer To Do’ list that I make each year!  This Art Cart was something I’ve been wanting to put together for a while now that my kids are five and almost three.   They love playing with their art supplies, but they have been tucked away in our playroom closet and fairly hard to get to. I owned this white storage cart already and used it next to my desk for office supplies, but it was never very organized.  I took the opportunity to turn it into a toddler art cart and I’m so happy with the way it turned out!

Right now since it is Summer, I just keep it parked next to our dining room table.  The kids grab it in the mornings and will start working on a few things and it makes it easy to access.  The paint supplies are in a box all by themselves because if I find that I need to hide them from the kids, I can easily grab it and move.   They know that is the one thing they can only do with Mommy.  Everything else on the cart, they can really play with by themselves.

They love the painting, the pipe cleaners with beads to make bracelets, and the do a dot paints and workbooks.  It’s fun to really watch them get creative and utilize all the supplies we’ve had locked up for so long.  I hope this helps and is easy enough to follow.

Let me know if you have any questions and I hope you go make one of your own!  Remember, there are lots of different ways to do it.  It doesn’t have to by my way.  I wanted everything to look coordinated, but feel free to grab old Tupperware from your kitchen that can do the same thing!

This looks amazing!! As much as I not-so-secretly loathe art projects for kids (I just hate the mess), I’m trying to be less uptight about it and it helps when things are “no spill” / “no mess” / water based, etc!

gal, I totally feel your pain. I’m the same way and hate the mess, but so far, I swear this has made it easier!
