Each year I host a girls party in December and we serve dinner and do a really fun dirty santa gift exchange! This is our 7th year doing it and each year I try to explain to the girls that the fun in the game is stealing the gifts, so don’t try to be too nice! It really is the fun of the game to see all the gifts get exchanged around and see which ones are the hits for that year. We typically see a lot of accessories in the exchange… things like hats, earrings, scarves and purses! But you really never know, there are always some other fun surprises thrown in too!
So this year, we had to have a very modified version of the party. It was still a ton of fun and it was a nice way to kick into holiday mode. The food was catered and we went with a more asian theme this year. We had dumplings, fish, noodles, sushi and some beef. It was a fun spread and made for a pretty presentation. I also made a simple cheese ring with pepper jelly in the center for an appetizer and a girlfriend brought over our favorite maple and sausage Christmas tree that we have served for several years now as a “late night snack.”
Our schedule for the evening is always cocktail hour to start with as everyone arrives and then after an hour or so, we basically ring the dinner bell and make everyone sit down and eat. This way everyone has a nice full belly when we sit down and start the game!! We all sit around the living room with all the wrapped gifts and draw numbers!! And then the game begins…
Its such a fun evening and I look forward to hosting it every year!!!!
