Football Tailgating and Game Day Recipes

Thank you to Walmart for partnering on this post, and to my readers for supporting my blog. I have made all my product purchases, and all reviews are my own.

We are huge Florida Gators fans in our family! Football season is a big deal for us, and one of my favorite parts of every fall is going to the games and tailgating. Whether you are a football fan or not, the social aspect of tailgating is fun for everyone! The great food, drinks, and company adds up to a really fun weekend, and a win for the Gators makes it that much better! I thought it would be fun to devote a post to tailgating tips and my favorite items for a really fun experience. I know that many of you live near college towns and tailgate often. I hope you enjoy!

Here in Florida, most people look forward to football season, and we start thinking about our first tailgate well before the summer is over. There is a lot to do to prepare for these fun events, and it can be a little overwhelming to plan it all. I have posted often about Walmart + and how much I love this membership. Thankfully, they have come in handy again for fall entertaining! Whether you are tailgating at the stadium or hosting a game day party, Walmart+ will make your day easier so that you can enjoy the day with friends.

We started planning for our first home game tailgate in August. Once I started brainstorming and making a list of everything that I needed, I knew that the easiest option was to take advantage of my Walmart + membership. I made my list from my phone, ordered everything that I needed with just a few clicks, chose my best delivery time, and everything was delivered FOR FREE to my front porch, exactly when I needed it. I had ordered a few larger items, and it was so nice to have everything delivered to me, rather than driving to the store and loading everything in and out of the car. It was a no-brainer and so convenient.

If you have a Walmart + membership, you get free delivery from your store ($35 minimum, restrictions apply), free shipping from Walmart.com – with no order minimum (excludes Marketplace items, location and freight surcharges),  member prices on fuel, and mobile scan & go when shopping in store.

I used my Walmart + membership for a few items that I needed (listed below) as well as all of the ingredients for the appetizers that I brought. Here are a couple of my favorite recipes!

salt and pepper to taste
1/2 yellow onion, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1 pound ground beef
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

SEASONED BUTTER
1/4 cup (57 g) butter melted
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper
2 teaspoons sesame seeds

6 slices cheddar cheese
1 medium tomato, diced
1 cup dill pickle slices, diced (optional – I didn’t use these)
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F.

HAMBURGER
In a small bowl, mix together the seasoned salt, hamburger seasoning, salt, and pepper.
Add oil to a non-stick pan and add the onions and garlic. Cook about 1-2 minutes. Add the ground beef to the pan. Break up the meat with a wooden spoon. Add the Worcestershire sauce. Sprinkle with seasoning mixture.
Cook for about 8-10 minutes, or until no pink remains in the meat. Remove from heat.

SEASONED BUTTER
In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter, salt, coarse ground pepper, and sesame seeds, set aside.

SLIDERS
Split your rolls in half, place the bottom half in a prepared 9×13 baking dish. Set the top half aside.
Add cheese slices and then the cooked hamburger to the top of the buns
Top with diced pickles (if using), tomatoes, shredded cheese, and the top half of the buns.
Brush generously with seasoned butter then cover with foil.
Bake for 15 minutes or until the cheese is hot and bubbly.
Remove foil, and bake for an additional 5 minutes (or until the tops of the sliders turn a golden brown).
Remove from oven, slice and serve. (Best served hot)

Here is a roundup of a few of my favorite items for tailgating from Walmart +. They are all linked below and included in the above collage. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have!

FancyPanz! I love these! I had seen these in many small gift boutiques, so I was pleasantly surprised to have the chance to order them at Walmart! If you are bringing a disposable foil pan to a tailgate, you can place it inside this “FancyPanz” to protect it, make it sturdy for transport, and attractive for serving. I use these often and they are wonderful for bringing a dish to a tailgate or party!

I put the “FancyPanz” to good use when bringing my cheeseburger sliders to our tailgate!

Kamp Rite Camping Chair: I absolutely love this concept and wish that I had more occasions to use chairs like this. How long could you stay under this canopy, sipping your drink under the hot sun or (hopefully no) rain?! Such a great idea!

Foldable Cornhole Set: So great for passing the time before the game starts, and I love that this set is foldable and easy to transport. Are you a cornhole fan?

Great Plate 12-Pack: I love these unique plates for holding plenty of food, with space for a beer or water bottle to fit right in the middle! So smart!
