Last weekend I brought a group of friends to Pass Christian, MS for a weekend getaway. If you have been around here for a little bit, you may know that my Mom built a house over there a couple of years ago and she was kind enough to let us enjoy it for a few days. It is a quiet, coastal town with lots of natural beauty. This area was devastated after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and it has taken many years to rebuild, but it has come back looking newer and better than ever.
We left on Friday morning and made plans to stop in Ocean Springs, MS on our way over. We headed straight to the cutest downtown area (where I used to live back in 2010/2011) and had lunch at Maison de Lu. It is one of my favorite spots and they have the cutest outdoor patio with fireplace and the best pressed sandwiches! Our friend Hayden lives in OS and came to meet us for a quick hello and then we hit a few of the shops. If you are ever passing through this area, Ocean Springs has some adorable little shops.
From Ocean Springs, we hit the road and took the scenic water view the rest of the way to Pass Christian. Everyone settled in the house perfectly and we unloaded all our luggage and all the food we packed for the weekend!! I told the girls that we would be eating at the house for breakfast and dinner both days, so we planned our meals ahead of time!
Look at this gourmet meal!!! We spent many of hours just sipping and chatting on the cozy back deck and then we ate the most delicious meal of a homemade crab cakes and an apple fall salad!
Sitting around the table at home with these friends was 10x better than being out at a restaurant.
My sweet friend Meredith drove over from New Orleans to meet us for a night too which was so much fun and loved that she got to hang out with all our friends. The sunsets were dreamy every night and again, we closed out the night sipping wine on the back porch and enjoying the cool breeze.
Our morning started with homemade breakfast, shots of bloody Marys or mimosas….pick your poison!! We gabbed about our favorite new beauty products over breakfast and took our time sipping our coffee and enjoying a slow morning.
The only reservation a made for the whole weekend was one for lunch on Saturday at the Thorny Oyster in Bay St. Louis. So we all got ourselves dressed and looking presentable to head out and show this crew a little bit around town.
The Thorny Oyster is so darn cute. We all said it felt a little bit like the Citizen Restaurant in Alys Beach. It felt swanky and fun and the food was all incredible. Everything I tasted was delicious and we shared a lot of different items! They have a fun bar as well as restaurant seating and while we were there, a wedding party came through and had cocktails at the bar which was fun to watch!
We did a little shopping down the street from Thorny Oyster and popped in a few shops. This area is known for their antique shops which I probably could have had some fun in if I had taken time to really scour, but I will admit it looked like a lot of hilarious junk at first glance.
We headed back to the house and went straight into rap music and dance party mode. The weather was gorgeous and we contemplated trying to get into the pool, but it was still too chilly and I couldn’t heat it up fast enough. So a few of the girls decided it was time to get into comfy clothes ASAP and broke out our matching silk Jammie sets. These were a hit, they turned out so cute!
The jammies came in lots of different colors and everyone picked their own. I went for Burgundy so I could use it for the holidays too! They also make a cute kids version that I ordered the girls.
Saturday night I was in charge of dinner. I brought a lasagna with me as well as a salad and bread that was all ready to go. To keep my life really simple, I even packed my favorite Lucy Grymes fancy paper plates and placemats to make clean up extra easy!! She makes the cutest bow napkin rings too that come in several colors.
Our final evening we sat enjoying more wine, playing games and chatting. These weekends are always good for the soul. I loved that we had so little planned; but yet, we managed to enjoying every single minute of good company and relaxation.
On Sunday, we were all sad to pack up. Everyone had different times they had to leave and a few of us stayed back to close up the house and grab one last lunch on our way back before we headed home. We had lunch at Bacchus in Pass Christian on our way home and cheers to a great weekend.
This little spot is a fun weekend escape if you are ever in the area. Someone asked me if it would be good with kids too and I would say yes. We have brought our kids of course, but we have only ever stayed in a house. They do have cute little hotel accommodations in the area, but I have never stayed at one to speak of! But if you have any questions, I am happy to try and answer.
Here’s a list of some past trips we have taken as a group. Serenbe was a fun unique spot too just South of Georgia if that’s convenient to any of you. We loved that quiet little getaway as well.
