Last Summer I was on a roll with some good organizing posts and I actually have a few that I started and then never finished up.
A little over a year ago, when we knew we were on board for having a third child, we decided it was time for me to upgrade to the big Yukon XL. I was honestly a bit nervous about it (I drove the Acura MDX before this one) and I wasn’t sure how I would do driving a big BUS! But you know what?? I got used to it in about two days and now I absolutely love it! I am so glad we went for it. The main selling point for the car was the fact that we had three rows (we went for the captain chairs and then the third row) and the fact that we still had a big storage space in the back with the 3rd row up.
I knew I wanted to have a system to keep the car organized. We are in and out of the car all the time and in the summer, we are always heading to the beach, parks, splash pads, etc and sometimes its on a whim.
So when Megan from Willow Crowns showed this cute idea for storing an extra set of kids clothes in her car, I had to jump on it.
I bought three Crayon boxes from Target during back-to-school season, but you can also find them here, and I filled them with an extra set of clothes for each of the kids. That means underwear, shirt, shorts, socks and some sunglasses. I also throw in a bathing suit for each of them during the summer too.
I bought this pretty trunk organizer that would be perfect in my trunk to organize everything I wanted to keep on hand. Along with all three boxes for the kids that I put their names on with a label maker, I also have a small box that I use for Molly’s extra diapers and wipes. It is always great to have a small first aid kit on hand too! I can’t tell you how often I need a quick band-aid while we are on the go!
I try to always keep a few clean towels in the car for whenever we randomly hit the pool or a splash pad and then this organizer also comes with a little mini cooler. This is great for when I know we are headed to the pool or somewhere that I may need to throw in a few water bottles or juice boxes and maybe a few snacks.
The last section in my trunk organizer is just a few things to help keep my car clean. It becomes a mess REALLY fast with three kids. We keep one extra little portable booster seat in there that we had bought for vacation one year and it can come in handy when we have an extra friend in the car. We also have a car handheld vacuum that works out great for me because my five year old can crawl all over the car for me and vacuum up all the junk! I also keep a great odor eliminating spray that I read about read about it in iPropertyManagement’s article to help keep my car smelling fresh from things like sour milk, and whatever old food might have fallen through the cracks! YUCK! I also keep hand sanitizer in there all the time and love to keep the tall cans of Purell Wipes in each of the doors in the cup holders to always have for the kids hands and faces!
Am I missing anything??? Do you have anything in your car to keep organized with kids???
