Our Family Halloween Costumes

I thought it would be fun to go back through some of our “family costumes” over the last several years.  We are certainly not the most creative when it comes to family costumes and are most likely just hitting the buy now button on Amazon, but it is fun looking back on these photos and seeing what the kids were into each year.  I try to let them come up with an idea or theme and then find a grouping of costumes from there.  This concept is getting harder and harder because Brody is now 9 and has two younger sisters, so fun, family costumes are pretty much out of reach.  But, I love to try and coordinate one way or another and I figure my days of dressing up with the kids are certainly numbered.

2017

This was a fun year that we actually had two themes going.  Brody was obsessed with Star Wars and Madelyn was in love with Pooh Bear.  So we actually did two different costumes that year for separate events and I loved the way both of them turned out.  Our weather here in FL for Halloween is often warm, so those Pooh Bear costumes can be sweltering hot, Ha!

2018

Brody was into Captain America at this time and I managed to talk the whole family into the theme.  I found Matt and I t-shirts at Target and I think Brody and Madelyns costumes were from Amazon.  Molly was only 2 months old and I found the cutest little outfit on Etsy that was Captain America themed.  She really wasn’t having it, but we made it work!

2019

Madelyn was ready to be a princess for Halloween this year, so Molly followed suit.  They wanted to be Belle, so I decided to do the same.  Brody chose Iron Man which worked out for our color scheme perfectly, haha!

2020

This was a year we kind of threw together at the last minute! I came across these masks from 3 ninjas on Etsy and recently introduced the kids to one of my favorite childhood movies.  We borrowed some karate outfits from our cousins and made it work!   With a little more preparation, this idea could have been really, really cute!

2021

This is a bit less of a family costume, but it all worked out.  Brody was the gingerbread man from Fortnite and the girls wanted to be ballerinas; so they picked this unicorn ballerina outfit from PB Kids and they looked adorable!

2022

The girls wanted to be Snow White this year, so I found the evil Step Mother costume that I ended up really liking and we even found the cutest little dwarf costume for our puppy dog!  Brody was all about being a football player, so he was Patrick Mahomes.

2023

This year was really fun watching the kids get in character.  The girls wanted to be the Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus.  I owned my costume already, so it was super easy.  We bought the girls costumes from Amazon and the wigs just cracked me up. We had fun doing our make-up and I think the girls nailed it!  Brody was a football player again.  This year it was Justin Herbert from the LA Chargers.

I am excited to see how this years outfit comes together! My plan is to dress up again with the kids because I am not sure they will want me much longer!! As you can tell, Matt is not one to dress up, so I can’t ever count on him for family costume ideas.  I would love to hear some of your favorite family costumes that you have done in the past or have seen a family do. Here are some that come to mind for me….

The Incredibles
The Little Mermaid
Toy Story
Power Rangers
The Wizard of Oz
Avengers
Jurassic Park
Super Mario Brothers
Hercules
Frozen
Moana
Harry Potter

You can see a throwback post of costumes going back all the way to 2009 here which may give you some good laughs.
