Sausage Grits Casserole
INGREDIENTS
2 pounds mild bulk pork sausage
4 cups water
1 ¼ cups uncooked grits
4 cups (16 oz.) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 cup milk
1/8 tsp. garlic powder
½ tsp. dried thyme
4 eggs, beaten
paprika to taste
DIRECTIONS
Brown the sausage in a large skillet. Drain. Bring the water to a boil in a saucepan. Stir in the grits and return to a boil. Reduce heat and cover. Cook until the water is absorbed and the grits are thickened.
Remove from heat and add the cheddar cheese, milk, garlic powder, and thyme. Stir until cheese melts. Stir in sausage and eggs. Spoon into a lightly greased 9 x 13 baking dish. Sprinkle with paprika and bake at 350 degrees for 45 – 60 minutes or until golden brown and set. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.
