Scenes from our Weekend | New York City

I’m all out of sorts after flying home from vacation on a Monday and a bit behind in the blog world.  I’m so lucky to have gotten out of NYC yesterday when I did and glad to be home with my family after a blast of a weekend.  For those of you that missed it, I headed up to NYC on Friday all by myself to stay with my cousin, Alex, for the weekend.  It was such a fun getaway with some much needed girl time.  We got to catch up, shop, explore the city, eat and drink a lot and talk a little bit about her upcoming wedding!!
I got in town around 6pm on Friday and headed straight to her apartment in Brooklyn.  We grabbed my other cousin, Maggie, and the three of us headed for dinner at Marlow & Sons just a few blocks from her apartment.

Me and my cousin Alex a bit late in the evening…

We slept in on Saturday.  That was glorious.  I don’t even know what sleeping in is anymore but her apartment stayed so dark where I slept that I was asleep till like 10am which was amazing.  We had plans for brunch in the city with some friends at noon.  We hit up Charlie Bird with friends and had an amazing brunch.

I think everyone could not stop talking about this Farro Salad that we all split.  I googled it and found this recipe.  I will definitely try to remake this as it was the absolute best thing on the menu.  It was delicious.

The brunch ladies…

After brunch, we all walked around the village doing a little shopping.  We walked in and out of a few boutiques, found a fab rehearsal dinner dress for my cousin, and stopped for a special cupcake treat at the Magnolia Bakery.  I had the red velvet cupcake and honestly I was a bit disappointed.  I was hoping for some awesome cream cheese frosting, but instead it was a really light cool whip type icing.  Oh well…

We popped in Diptyque which had such cool decor.
And after a long day of shopping, we headed home for a little rest and got ourselves ready for dinner that night.  We skipped our reservation in the city and decided to go enjoy an awesome sushi restaurant right by my cousin’s apartment.  It was the perfect choice.  The sushi was amazing.

Sunday we walked in and out of some shops in Brooklyn and had brunch at a local spot called Sweet Chicks which is known for their chicken and waffles!  It was a cute spot with excellent food.

We headed into the city early evening to do a little more shopping and exploring and I made her take me to the famous macaroon spot, Laduree.  It did not disappoint at all.  I honestly expected it to be even more ridiculously expensive than they are here at home which is $2.50 per macaroon.  They were actually only $2.70 there which is still ridiculous but not as bad as I was expecting.

We met up with our good friend (and sorority sister), Megan, and had an awesome dinner in Soho at Navy.  This is a tiny restaurant, but the food was incredible.  I would definitely go back to this spot.  It was so much fun to get to catch up with Meg.  She had been out of town all weekend; but flew in town late Sunday afternoon, so we were able to catch her for dinner!

I hated saying goodbye, but was so happy that I was able to make it out on Monday.  They all had to go back to work and I grabbed a famous NY bagel and coffee and grabbed an Uber to take me to the airport.  I had an easy trip home and was happy to see my sweet baby to pick me up at the airport on Monday!!

It’s amazing how much I appreciate little getaways like this now.   I was so spoiled pre-baby where I used to sneak away for the weekend all the time to catch up with old friends, but now these trips are few and far between.  It makes me that much more appreciative of the little time I get with great friends and family that live far away πŸ™‚

I love weekends with girlfriends that consist of all food and shopping! Love eating out and not rushing and just talking over wine. Looks like you had such a nice time and I'm glad you missed the snow. It slammed us in Boston and it took me over 2 hours to shovel out!
