It was the first weekend of June and in Pensacola it kicks off all the Fiesta Five Flags activities. What is Fiesta? The Fiesta of Five Flags is an annual celebration of the founding of Pensacola. In 1559, Spanish Conquistador, Don Tristan de Luna, established Pensacola as the first European settlement in the United States. Since that time five different flags have flown over the City: Spanish, French, British, Confederate, and American. This 10-day festival is one of the oldest and largest heritage festivals in the State of Florida. It’s a ton of fun with activities for all age groups. They have a nighttime float parade, daytime boat parade, coronation balls and a big seafood festival!
This weekend we started off with the evening parade on Friday night. We walked down to Palafox St. and lined up on the roads for the kids to scram for beads and the kids to catch a few souvenirs. Madelyn actually snagged the cutest stuffed Pooh Bear this year!
On Saturday, we went the Yacht Club to watch them load up the boats all decorated with flags and depart the Yacht club to head out to Pensacola Beach. The kids ran around and watched and after the boats took off, we ate a little lunch.
Saturday night, Matt and I grabbed a sitter at the last minute and went out for dinner. I forgot to snag even one photo, but we did one of our favorite things to do on date nights. We hopped around to different restaurants and sat at the bar for a light appetizer and drink. We nibble on an app at each spot and end with dessert somewhere. It’s always a lot of fun.
On Sunday, we loaded up the kids for the beach. I don’t know if it’s pregnancy or just that time of summer already; but I was declaring it our last beach adventure outside of vacation !!! Haha. It was so hot, so much work to get to the beach with all our gear and then the Gulf was rough and the kids only lasted less than two hours.
We were all hot, sticky, sandy, and cranky when we loaded up in the car to go home. I hate to whine though because the beach is seriously our favorite thing ever, but this pregnant Mama needs to spend more time at the pool and on the boat this summer.
Sunday evening we chilled at the house and Matt and I made a really good dinner! I’m going to share the recipe soon! Hope everyone has a great week. We are tackling swim lessons and tennis camp this week while I try to get organize and pack up for our week at the beach with friends and family!!
