Scenes From Our Weekend | Friendsgiving & A Baby Shower

Happy Monday friends! I hope everyone had a fun-filled weekend.  It’s Thanksgiving week!  ahhh.  I’m pretty pumped and now scrambling to try and find some fun activities to keep my kids busy for the rest of the week while they are out of school!

If you missed it on Friday, I shared my Friendsgiving tablescape.  We are not hosted Thanksgiving at our house this year, so we decided it would be fun to get together with a few friends and let everyone bring one of their favorite dishes and have a Friendsgiving.  We’ve never done this before, but now I want to do one every single year.  We had a blast.

We got a babysitter at the house so everyone could bring their kids, but yet they were out of hair and not interrupting a nice dinner.  Everyone brought a dish and I baked the turkey.  Have I mentioned that I have never done my own turkey before???

So I purchased this 12 pound butterball from Walmart and I got to work.  I decided to go to my right-hand gal, Ina, and headed straight for her “Make It Ahead” cookbook.  She had a recipe for roasting a turkey that only required a few ingredients, so I decided to take it on.  (I can’t find the recipe online, but it is a salt rub with salt, lemon zest and chopped sage.)  I was able to do everything the day before except bake it.  I even made the homemade gravy from the same cookbook which I have never done before either.

I also made my favorite sausage and cornbread dressing from Martha Stewart.  My secret trick is to not make my own cornbread, but to buy the delicious sweet cornbread from Fresh Market.  It is my favorite!  I also use hot Jimmy Dean sausage, but the sage would be good too.

The others brought sweet potato casserole, corn soufflé, roasted Brussel sprouts, a salad and we also grilled a beef tenderloin.  There was so much good food!

My skirt is on MAJOR sale and you can get another 40% off with code FALLCLEANUP. It’s even cuter looking in person.  I love the gold buttons.

On Friday,  we had pictures done of the kiddos.  We just did family photos at the beach this summer, so I was looking to just do a quick mini session of the kids for a Christmas card picture.  I think they did pretty well and 20 minutes is definitely their max attention span 🙂

On Saturday, I had a baby shower to go to.  The party was adorable!   All of the decorations were so sweet.  You may have seen me post them on my instastories.  I was in love with these bamboo chairs they had set up outside.  I asked if anyone knew where to get them and I heard Steinmart has really good prices on them and to definitely check during Black Friday.  I also found them on Amazon for what seemed like a pretty good price to me.

Front Porch Goals???

You can’t see my dress, but it’s super cute (summer-dress) and 40% off right now with code FALLCLEANUP.

On Saturday night, Matt and I had a sitter and we met some family out to dinner.  The temperatures were starting to drop a little and I broke out my favorite wool skirt from J.Crew again.  I’m in love.  It looks so pretty with cream, navy, browns and  cabernets.

On Sunday, we took the kids out to breakfast, went to the movie theater to play video games and then saw the new movie The Star.  I can’t say enough good things about the movie. I loved it so much and both kids actually stayed through the whole thing.  Brody always does great in the theater, but Madelyn is still a squirmer.  So I was happy she made it until the end.  The movie tells the story of baby Jesus so well and helps remind (and teach) the kids the reason for Christmas.

I wore my favorite new velvet jeans.  I own them in two colors now I love them so much.

That’s a wrap!  I hope everyone has a great week!!
