Let’s just say we are not professional bakers in our home by any means but I feel like everyone has to try making some homemade sugar cookies at some point!! So me and the kids tried our hand at some Christmas sugar cookies with a buttercream icing that we dyed a few different colors and did our best decorating!
Sugar Cookies
Recipe from Garvin & Co
Cream together:
1 Cup Sugar
2 Sticks Softened Butter
Add: 2 Eggs,
4 Tablespoons Cream (Half & Half)
a smidgeon of Vanilla
Mix Together.
Then Add:
3 Cups Flour
2 tsp Baking Powder
1 tsp Baking Soda.
Mix well (I used my hands here).
Refrigerate dough at least two hours.
Roll, cut & bake at 350 degrees for about 6-7 min.
Buttercream Frosting
1 stick softened, salted butter
2 cups powdered sugar (keep extra on hand if you need to thicken at the end)
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp almond extract
Pinch of salt
1/4 cup of whole milk
Combine all ingredients in a bowl & blend with a hand mixer. Add more powdered sugar as needed.
Also to add, sometimes I don’t wait the full two hours (because I’m impatient and a rule breaker). I like to roll them out pretty thin, if they’re thicker they will take longer in the oven, if they’re really thin, the last batches will only take about 5-6 minutes in the oven!
