What a magical month it has been! The festivities began with our company Christmas party weekend and a visit with Santa, then a mini family vacay to have breakfast with Santa, a weekend getaway to New Orleans and finally Christmas!
We started celebrating early with Matt’s family from Montgomery. They came to town so we could exchange gifts and celebrate together before Christmas. Brody loves his cousins so much and they all have a blast playing together. We had an exceptionally warm Christmas this year, so there was lots of outdoor play time.
It wouldn’t be a holiday with out one of our children being sick though. Mid-week, Madelyn started with a fever. I thought it might have been from her 15 month wellness shots she had just gotten, but turns out it was RSV plus double ear infections. Of course we didn’t know any of this until after Christmas was over and she had to fuss her way through the holiday. I felt terrible and hated that she was so sick. She would act fine for a little bit, but then be really fussy soon after.
We cancelled our Christmas Eve plans of church and dinner at my brother and SIL’s house because of Madelyn being sick. She had started with a cough the night before and we were worried about her being contagious. So we spent a quiet night at home just as a family, watched Elf, then put the kids to sleep so Santa could come. Matt and I enjoyed putting the tree together and off to sleep we went.
Brody had us up at 6:30am Christmas morning and was dying to see if Santa came. So I woke Madelyn up and we all headed downstairs as a family. The kids were so cute checking out the tree and opening their gifts. Brody was all about his new jeep and pretty pumped about his new bike with training wheels too. He loves the concept of opening the gifts and tears through them in turbo speed. We’re working on teaching him how to enjoy each toy that he gets to open and not just ask, “what’s next?” We casually ate our traditional breakfast casserole and cinnamon rolls and played with our new toys until the family came over later in the day.
Things got a little stressful around midday as we thought we might be taking Madelyn to the emergency room. She was obviously in a lot of pain and she seemed inconsolable for awhile. Thankfully a warm bath calmed her down and she was able to enjoy the rest of the evening.
I’ve been extra sad to say goodbye Christmas this year even though I always look forward to a new year. I just wish the new year started with April. Bring on Spring and Summer… 🙂
How cool are these photos?? It’s called the “catch Santa” app and you just add him to one of your photos!! Brody was so amazed!! So was everyone else I showed 🙂
Past Christmas Recaps:
What a sweet Christmas! Your decorations are just gorgeous. And your sweet babies are so precious! xx, I’m Fixin’ To
I just love the pictures of the kids in the jeep! That was always the best gift. I did the catch santa app once and it was a big hit! So much fun….this time of year is just the most magical. Wishing you the best in 2017 Annie!
The ‘Ya Filthy Animal’ is hysterical! I’ve seen those signs a lot recently, so cool!
Annie, I just love that you are so obviously from the South. You dress your kids like I used to dress mine and it’s precious. I’m from VA and now live in CA and you NEVER see children in cute little smocked frocks out here and if you did I’m pretty sure people would look at you like you had 3 heads. One of my besties from college owns a children’s store in Nashville and they just started an online store. You need to check it out! http://www.thelittlecottagechildrensshop.com I think you’ll love it! Happy New Year!!!
Thank you Lisa! That’s so sweet! I know the smocked clothing seems to be a thing of the past unless you live or are from the south!! I will always love it!! I can’t wait to check out your friends store. I love little children’s boutiques!
