Rosemary Beach September 2020

Hurricane Sally came barreling through our little town of Pensacola, FL in September 2020. This was a hurricane that was predicted to hit quite a bit west of us and be a pretty mild hurricane, so everyone I knew stayed put in Pensacola for the storm. Well, this storm ended up being far worse than anyone ever predicted and caught our small town by complete surprise! It was really a devastating storm in so many ways.

Water rose significantly all around the area, boats looked like they were going to come crashing into the back of our house and everyone lost power and water for a significantly long time. We were lucky enough to not have much for damage other than a big mess and lack of power. The kids were pretty resilient, but we all were starting to go a little stir crazy.

A friend of mine texted me and said she found a place in Rosemary to escape to for a few days while we waited for our power to turn back on and so we packed up and left for a quick getaway!

We stayed at the Bentley Beach House which we have stayed at once before and is very nice.

We biked, beach, ate, drank, and swam our way through the next few days in Rosemary.

While we were there, all the posts and memes started coming out about the Skanska barges that crashed into our very critical bridge that connects Pensacola to Gulf Breeze. Skanska was the company building the new bridge for us and since the hurricane was not predicted to hit Pensacola directly, they never moved the 2 dozens barges they had on the job site and they completely ruined our brand new bridge!!!! It has been devastating. As I type this, it has been almost 7 months since the hurricane, and they are still repairing our bridge!!
